Portrayed from 1931
Boris Karloff
As the Monster in Frankenstein (1931)
- Everyone's favorite electrified monster, Boris Karloff was not the first choice for Frankenstein (1931) - fellow horror actor Bela Lugosi had already turned it down.
- Karloff was billed as just "?" in the film credits!
- The first illustrations of the Incredible Hulk were inspired by Karloff's portrayal of The Monster.
Born William Henry Pratt on November 23, 1887 in East Dulwich, London, England
Died February 2, 1969 in Midhurst, Sussex, England
Boris Karloff
As the Mummy (1932)
- Recognized as one of the true horror icons, Boris Karloff was covered in 150 yards of cloth, glue and clay during his 8 hours of make-up for The Mummy (1932).
- The discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922 and its 'curse' inspired the making of The Mummy (1932).
- Karloff was not as scary as he seemed - when not playing his many monster roles, he was petrified of mice and loved gardening!
