Growing up in Chicago, Ford's acting career began with minor roles in television and film for Columbia and Universal productions. Before finding mainstream success, he worked as a skilled carpenter to support his family.
After working with director George Lucas in American Graffiti (1973), the first major work for both Ford and Lucas, Lucas asked Ford to assist him in the casting process for his next project, Star Wars (1977).
Ford also worked with Lucas for the Indiana Jones franchise. The films have grossed over $2 billion worldwide and have further cemented Ford's legacy.
