• Charlton Heston is portrayed here as 'Moses' in director Cecil B DeMille's The Ten Commandments (1956). He was cast in the role because he bore a very close resemblance to the statue of Moses carved by Michelangelo
• Heston was president of the Screen Actors Guild (1965-71) and helped create the American Film Institute as well as actively supported the National Endowment for the Arts
• As an early supporter of civil rights, he went to the March on Washington for Civil Rights on August 28, 1963, along with Burt Lancaster
