Vital Farms Eggs
If you've watched any of our farm footage, you've likely seen flocks of brown hens exploring the pastures, clambering over fallen trees and dust bathing in the sun. These are the red-earlobed girls behind our brown eggs.
But, on a few of our family farms, you'll see white hens with red combs and - wait for it - blueish earlobes! These are the hens who lay our True Blues. You may not have thought about a chicken's ears before, but her earlobes are something special.
A hen's earlobe colors correlate with her eggshell colors:
- White earlobes to white eggs
- Red or dark earlobes to brown eggs
- Blue or greenish earlobes to turquoise eggs.
Another difference about True Blues?
Unlike brown eggs which are white on the inside, all blue eggshells are blue all the way through. Crack one open to see for yourself!
Just like our Hy-line Brown hens, our True Blues Azur hens are outdoorsy girls raised with respect and care, free to roam on rotated pastures year-round.
And while their heirloom eggs aren't available everywhere - yet! - we hope to bring the blues to your breakfasts and more really soon.
Pasture Raised Eggs
Looking for ethically produced food? You’ve found it. Pasture-raised eggs mean the hens who produce them are free to roam in healthy pastures year-round. We bet you can taste the difference.
- Small Family Farms
- Conscious Capitalism
We began as a single-family farm. As we grew, we didn’t make our farm bigger – we found more like-minded farmers who put the welfare of their feathered friends first. Today, we work with over 300 small family farms who give the girls the outdoor lifestyle they deserve. Our pasture-raised eggs come from pasture-raised hens who enjoy a minimum of 108 square feet roaming room in fresh pastures, with the freedom to forage for local grasses, succulents, and wildflowers while enjoying fresh air and sunshine.
