HIDEO NOMO

Hideo Nomo

Pitcher
Hideo seemingly came out of nowhere to give baseball a tremendous shot in the arm in '95. Actually, he was very well known in the Far East, where he compiled a 78-45 record with a 3.15 ERA in five seasons as Japan's premier power pitcher. Hideo led the Pacific League in strikeouts and wins four straight years and was called "The Tornado" because of his whirling delivery. Raising his hands high over his head, he turns his back to the plate, wrapping his right arm behind him. Finally, gracefully, he unwinds and delivers a 91-mph fastball or a forkball with a nasty downward bite. "Hitters aren't sure if he's going to throw the ball to the plate or into center field," said one observer. At any rate Hideo was named the NL Rookie of the Year in '95, tossed a one-hitter, struck out 10 or more 11 times, started in the All-Star Game and led the NL with 236 SOs while finishing second with a 2.54 ERA.

Eric Gagne

Pitcher
It is not an exaggeration to say that no Relief Pitcher in the annals of the Grand Ol' Game ever had a season like Eric's in '03! He rewrote numerous records for Saves, including those for consecutive rescues over 1 year and 2 years. Although his specs make him look harmless, Eric is a "monster" on the hill, where he has precise control of 4 pitches at wildly varying speeds. He's simply the best!

ODALIS PEREZ

Odalis Perez's Baseball Card
Back of Odalis Perez's Baseball Card

Odalis Perez

Perez had posted a 9-3 record with a 2.33 ERA when he received his first All-Star nod. He also had two one-hit shutouts in 2002. Odalis pitched the fourth inning of the All-Star Game 2002, giving up only one unearned run and striking out two batters.

TAKASHI SAITO

Takashi Saito

Pitcher
Takashi became the second Dodgers player from Japan to make the All-Star Game, following Hideo Nomo in 1995. While Nomo got there as a starter, Saito got the nod by going 1-0 with 22 saves through June. His 42 strikeouts against just three walks formed the best ratio in the Majors, and he showed his stuff in a perfect seventh inning against the AL.

CHAD BILLINGSLEY

Chad Billingsley's Baseball Card

Chad Billingsley

Pitcher
As an amateur, Chad seemed to have a lower profile than many, but the Dodgers were convinced he had what it takes and made him the 24th overall pick of the '03 Draft. He rewarded their confidence with a sterling performance in the Pioneer League, where he was adjudged the loop's best pitching prospect by Baseball America. Chad goes to work with a 94-MPH fastball and an unshakeable attitude.

L.A. batterymate A.J. Ellis joked that the team will never hear the end of it after Zack claimed his first NL Silver Slugger Award in 2013. Greinke's not one to brag, but he could if he wanted to. His .328 average was the second-highest by any Dodgers pitcher since 1974.

To say that Kenley came back strong from a foot injury that sidelined him the first six weeks of 2015 is an understatement. He struck out four men in his first inning of the year, then led all relievers in WHIP.
