Of all the Western legends, Judge Roy Beans is one of the most romantic. Although he was in love with Miss Lilly for years, he never met her because he died a few months before she came to Langtry to see the town named in her honor. Though he was only a Justice of the Peace, Roy Bean became known as "The Law West of the Pecos". With a combination of Texas law and his own homespun justice, the Judge did his bit to preserve law and order in the wild and wooly West.
